Principal’s Message

Kaya Swan View Community,

WHAT A YEAR! It is impossible to believe that the year is nearly over and that I have had the privilege of being here as Principal for a full year. As I reflect on the year, I am astonished at how much we have achieved as a school community. Our beautiful community spirit was in full display at the Christmas concert and it was very heart warming to see how much everyone enjoyed the night.

We have noticed a positive shift in our parent community and this was evident recently, when we got the results back from the Parent Survey a couple of weeks ago. We compared it to our scores from Term 1, and we have made some MASSIVE gains:

Ideally, as a school 4.0 and above (highest is 5.0) is ideal. We are very happy that we have made such huge improvements in our parent opinions about how we are going as a school. These responses will help to pave the way forward for our school. On that note, I am pleased to let you know that our new school vision:

Inspiring lifelong learners through a consistent, collaborative approach that nurtures excellence, resilience, and community engagement

Every decision we make for the school will need to be in line with this vision. In light of this, I wanted to share some images of our school from the beginning of the year. Sometimes, remembering how far we have come as a school in such a short time allows us to be grateful of the hard work, time and kindness that we have all put in over these terms:

Not only has our school been transformed externally, internally we have also refreshed and refined. We have a strong behaviour management policy and students are feeling safer. We have a new Upper Primary Spelling Program for Year 4 – 6 next year called Word Origins which will support our older students after Letters and Sounds. We are using a new maths program called Top Ten Maths next year which will bring more consistency across the school. All our staff are participating in Shaping Minds Professional learning which helps staff to understand and use daily reviews and have a consistent lesson plan design. Next year we are also being upskilled in Berry St, a trauma in formed Social and Emotional program from K – 6 which teacher students about their emotions and coping skills. This is just a snapshot of the impressive developments we have made at Swan View PS, and 2025 is our year to THRIVE

This term we have had a large number of Prac Educations Assistants, Special Needs Assistants and Teachers. Our staff have worked extremely hard to mentor these students with their professional expertise. They all felt it was an extremely positive experience and loved our school.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude for our P&C this year who have been tremendous in their efforts to support our school. This also extends to our School Board who have given up their time to help us improve as a school. Thank you to all of our Swan View parent and caregiver community for your feedback, support and care for your children. We are privileged to be part of their journey. Congratulations to our Year 6 graduates who have made us all extremely proud on their path to high school. Below are some pictures of their Big Day Out and Bowling which they all thoroughly enjoyed.

In staffing news, unfortunately Rick our superstar gardener/handyperson has informed us that he will be leaving us form Jan 31. We had someone in line to replace him, but unfortunately they have let us know they are no longer coming. As such, we will be advertising for a gardener/handyperson 3 days a week. If you know of anyone who may be interested, please come and see me. I know you can all appreciate how much work, time and effort Rick has put into this school. He has helped us turned the place around and not a day goes by that we don’t get a positive comment about our gardens. We thank you Rick for everything you have done for Swan View PS.

We say goodbye as well to Miss Hailey Ferris who has been teaching music this semester. We appreciate her time with us at SVPS and wish her the best.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude to the staff members who are leaving us this year.

Firstly, Mr. Gulshan Price, our Deputy, has been an absolute ray of sunshine for our school. His kindness, professionalism, and dedication have truly made a lasting impact, and his contributions this year have been nothing short of extraordinary. He will be deeply missed by all of us.

To Miss Courtney Anderson, our wonderful Pre-Primary teacher, we extend our best wishes for her future endeavors. Her hard work and commitment to our EC2 students have been greatly valued, and her efforts will not be forgotten.

Finally, Mrs. Jen Hoskins has done an incredible job nurturing and guiding our Kindergarten students. Her dedication and care have been deeply appreciated, and her positive influence will surely leave a lasting legacy.

We thank each of these remarkable individuals for their contributions to our school community and wish them every success in the next chapter of their journeys.

As we move into the Christmas break, please take the time to rest and relax with your family. We cannot wait for 2025!

Kind regards,

Jemima Tomlinson

THERAPY DOG – ANGUS

This year, we teamed up with Delta Therapy Dogs to bring the beautiful Angus to our school. He is here to help our students learn all about caring for animals and help with our wellbeing. So far he has spent time in Kindy – Year 2 and he will continue to come every Friday next year. We just love having him!

Fun in the sun

EC4’s brain investigation.

Zayne was at the Supermarket, Aaliayh and Chayse were at the Airport and Lilijana, April and Evie were at the Post Office.

Zayne, Derick and Trinity using a dictionary to search for the word of the day.

The word of the day was ‘Amphibian.’

Library News

What a fantastic year we have had in the library! There have been so many exciting things happening the Bobtails like to try and join in too!

Lego Club on Mondays and Wednesdays has been a hit with the students. It has been lovely watching them use their imaginations and build some wonderful creations.

Board Game Club has continued running this year for the Year 4/5’s and we have all had a fantastic time learning new games and building our problem-solving skills.

We are very grateful to Dymocks Children’s Charities as we were privileged this year, to receive a $10,000 grant to buy new books for the school. Here are some very happy children from A1 unboxing the new books!

A friendly reminder to anyone who still has library books to return them to Mrs Brown as soon as you can.

Drumbeat

I would like to acknowledge our Term 4 Drumbeat girls who have participated in our social and emotional learning program. They have acquired some fantastic drumming skills, displayed wonderful teamwork and have developed strong social connections.  Well Done girls!
