Principal’s Message

Kaya Swan View community!
Term 4 has been excellent so far and summer is certainly around the corner. The weather has started to heat up and we would like to remind all students to ensure they have a hat to play outside in, and that they bring a water bottle with them to school. Swimming lessons will be here before we know it and a reminder to all families to get your swimming note and money in asap. We understand times are difficult at the moment and we can organise payment plans at the front office if needed.
Reports will be coming out at the end of this term and they will look quite different to previous years. The Department of Education have changed the amount teachers need to report on in an effort to reduce workload. We sent home a letter explaining these changes but if you would like further clarification, please do not hesitate to ask. I wanted to ensure parents are aware, we will be giving grades for ALL learning areas. It will just be the comments which are reduced.
Our P&C have done a tremendous job this year of supporting the school and for the last day of school have organised a Colour Run where students can earn prizes depending how much sponsorship they get. The P&C have supported our Interschool students bus fare this year which was welcomed by families. They have also pledged that the money from the brick fundraiser and colour run will go towards a new playground. We just found out today as well that the P&C have pledged a huge $20,000 to our playground! THIS IS AMAZING! This means we are DEFINITELY getting a new playground in 2025! Our students will start voting on Monday. We are so excited and a big thank you to our P&C!
We are coming up to the time of year where we are starting to plan our class structures. Here is a link to our Policies Page https://swanview.wa.edu.au/our-school/policies/ and you can click on Class Placement Policy to have a look at the policy and our FAQs.
Unfortunately, I needed to share some sad staffing news with you about our fantastic Mr Gulshan Price. You may be aware that Mr Price is also a lawyer and he has made the very difficult decision to return to his lawyer business. We have loved and adored having Mr Price as our Deputy and you will all agree he has made such a positive contribution to our school and community. We will be looking for a replacement for Term 1, 2025 while Mr Wright is still on leave. Luckily we will still have him around for the rest of this term.
Please be reminded that we also ask that students are not dropped off or picked up from the staff carpark. This is a safety risk.
Boorawardan,

Around the Rooms
EC4’s brain investigation. Jonathan was getting his hair done by the Trinity the hairdresser. Chayse and Noah were getting wounds dressed at the doctors.
There was also a waiting room for the patients waiting in the Doctor’s Surgery.

KIDDO DAY
Recently our staff had the opportunity to engage with KIDDO which is an evidence based fundamental movement skills program. It gives staff lots of fun ways for students to practice important skills such as running, hopping, skipping, throwing and catching. We will be including some fun games and activities that you can do at home to practice these vital skills. some of the games they learnt were Rocket Ship, Wicked Witch, Catch the Magical Creatures, Stink Bomb and Sneaky Sheep.

DENTAL STUDENTS VISIT

SPORTS NEWS
Hockey Incursion
Thanks to a grant from Sporting Schools, our school was able to obtain the expertise of a junior hockey coach to come in and spend 3 weeks teaching our students the basics of playing hockey.
Most of our students have not had experience playing hockey, so it was great to offer them a chance to try out a new sport.
Our students had a great time, and we would like to thank Laura for the time she spent here and the great job she did with them over the 3 weeks.
Hockey is played in winter and we would be happy to get information for any students who might be wanting to play hockey on the weekends next year, to help link them with a local club.

Community News

Our Community Association has a brand-new Committee. We are just members of our community who believe in making sure our neighbours have a place where they can be comfortable talking about matters that affect our daily lives and seek support from each other. Our association is not politically driven and seeks to ensure that, if we need to, our committee can advocate for our community’s priorities with a strong voice that is going to be heard by our elected representatives and government departments. We have already helped the Social Tennis Group get back their access to the Brown Park Tennis Courts and helped people affected by the new concrete wall next to the rail line form the Noise Wall Action Group. We are supporting the Christmas Carols Group to get funding and to organise this year’s Carols. We have also agreed to write a letter of support for your School’s efforts to have a sheltered bus stop installed on Morrison Road.
The strength of our voice and ability to be effective on behalf of our community depends on how many members we have. Members are not pressured to volunteer. We do ask Members to contribute to conversations so we can be confident we are representing our community when we act on your behalf.
Our Annual Memberships run on a Calendar year and cost $10 per person, with a 50% discount for people with concession cards and for people who are already a member of another Swan View registered club or association. Ordinary Memberships of 3 years for $25 are also available.
All members are given access to our Members Facebook Group, have the ability to vote on how the Swan View Community Association works and what it does, will receive our newsletter and, once we have sufficient numbers, be given access to special offers and discounts at local businesses, as well as free participation in select association activities that may require a cost.
We invite the Parents and Teachers of the Swan View Primary School to help make our community a better community by joining our association and adding your voice to our community. You can join by either attending our monthly public meetings held on the second Monday of each month in the Ron Jose Pavilion, Brown Park (non-members are welcome too) or online here: https://forms.gle/f8ahdsfDBUck3ajZA
