Newsletter 24 June 2024

Principal’s Message

Kaya Swan View PS community,

Welcome to our very first digital edition of the school newsletter! We are excited to ensuring that Swan View PS is more environmentally friendly and that our newsletter can be translated into any language. All of our newsletters will be stored on our website as well for easy access if you miss one.

We are at the end of a very long term, and it has really been an excellent one! Students will be getting their reports sent home on Wednesday, and we remind parents that we are only halfway through the year. There is still lots of learning to do and ensure that you take the time to read through your child’s report and let us know any questions you may have. Looking through the reports, it made me extremely proud to see the progress students have made so far. It was very evident that attendance directly impacts grades and the students who are not attending consistently, are struggling to meet the standards. Please ensure that your child arrives at school on time each day. We understand that it can sometimes be challenging to get children to school, but as parents and caregivers, we recognize the importance of regular attendance and the impact on our children’s opportunities later in life.

You may have read in our letter home the news that Mr Tim Schoenmakers (Music Specialist) has resigned from his position at Swan View PS. He has had a long career with the school and we appreciate all of his amazing efforts. He is going to take on a classroom role at Carson St PS. In his place, we have secured Hayley Ferris and Davina Marshall. Ms Davina Marshall is the Music Specialist at Greenmount PS three days a week and will be joining us on Mondays. Hayley is a recent graduate and piano teacher and will join us on Wednesdays. We feel very lucky to be having staff with such expertise join us at Swan View!

Also on staffing news, Mrs Patriarca will be leaving us at the end of this term due to family commitments and she will be sorely missed. Miss Kari Gray will be taking her role on Monday and Tuesday’s in A7 and Ms Pogorzelec will be teaching Wed, Thurs, Fri. Mrs Helen Reed will be staying on with us as our teacher in EC5 which is excellent news and Miss Lesley Law will remain as our Art and DOTT provider in EC5 and Kindy for the rest of the year.

A reminder that school returns on TUESDAY 16th JULY as we have a staff development day. Our staff will be continuing with Classroom Management Strategies.

We wish all of you a safe and happy holiday break.

Aussie of The Month

Around the Rooms

EC4’s Maths lesson

The students were finding 3D shapes (cylinder, cube, rectangular prism, sphere and cone) around the classroom to see which shapes could be stacked and rolled.

B4

After reading ” Tyrannosaurus Drip” by Julia Donaldson, the students in B4 designed, constructed and tested their own bridges. They used recycled materials, pop-sticks and MAB blocks and were only allowed to use sticky tape to hold them together!  The budding engineers in B4 did such a great job, they had a 100% success rate!  All of their bridges held a toy dinosaur for 1 minute.

Great Teamwork, B4 students!

Cultural Studies

As part of our Cultural Studies program, we research and learn about many animals (barna) (particularly endangered and threatened species) and how we can help protect and care for them if they become injured. We were very lucky to have a Pilbara Lizard to look at and hold. Mr Price was a little nervous! Previously it was injured, so the family cared for it. A big thank you to Treyje and his family for bringing it in.

Interschool Cross Country

Last Wednesday 30 of our students participated in the Interschool Cross Country Carnival at Moorditj Noongar Community College.

Our students were on their best behaviour and showed great enthusiasm and encouragement for each other. The Cross country can be a challenging event however our students displayed resilience despite the difficulty.

While all of our students can be very proud of their effort, we had several performances that stood out and are worth a special mention:

  • Manaia H won her year 4 event, Congratulations Manaia.
  • Gracie S and Cody D finished in third place
  • Lily Mfinished in fourth place
  • Kyrah L and Taylor I in fifth place.
  • Indi-Rose B finished in sixth place.
  • Emmett S finished in seventh place.
  • Sam S finished in eighth place
  • Liam B in tenth place.

Congratulations to all of our students for being so wonderful on the day and representing our school in a way that made us all very proud!
