Principal’s Message

Kaya Swan View PS community,

We are roaring towards the end of the year, and it feels like there are huge events every week!
A reminder that our PRESENTATION EVENING is on 12 December, starting from 4:30pm. We are looking forward to showcasing student performances and presenting our Book Awards for 2025. Our P&C will be running a sausage sizzle for dinner, so please get behind them! Don’t forget to bring along a chair or picnic rug for the oval.

Below are some important updates:

CLASSES 2026

We have had a significant increase in enrolments and will have 308 students in 2026. As a result, we are excited to announce that we will be adding two new classes next year! We warmly welcome the following new teachers to Swan View PS in 2026:

  • -Shantelle Williams (Year ½ teacher)
  • -Jeanette Petersen (Year 5/6 teacher)
  • -Beau Musgrave (Year 4 teacher)
  • -Daniel Yeung (Year 4 teacher)

We are also pleased to have Mrs Ruth McCauley and Mrs Nakia Thomas returning next year.

Class lists will be released via Compass on Friday 28 November. If you do not yet have the app, please visit the front office for support.

On Thursday 4 December, all of our new teachers will join us for a whole-school transition session, where students will spend some time with their 2026 teacher. We know a new school year can be nerve-wracking, and we hope this helps our students feel confident and prepared.

In other staffing news, Lisa O’Shaughnessy, who has been on leave for the past two years, has decided to resign from her position at Swan View PS. We thank Lisa for her contributions and hope to see her back in a relief capacity.

Our long-standing head cleaner, Bernie Phillips, has also announced her retirement. Bernie has been a dedicated and constant presence at our school for many years, and she will be very much missed.

As mentioned previously, Amanda Stevenson will not be returning in 2026 (other than relief teaching). We are incredibly grateful for Amanda’s professionalism, expertise, and collaborative spirit.

SCHOOL COUNCIL CHAIR

After many years of service as our School Council Chair, Richard Kaub has tendered his resignation from the role. We sincerely appreciate the time, commitment, and support Richard has given to the school, and we greatly value his contributions.

We are now seeking new Council members—and a new Chair—so we would love to hear from any parents or caregivers interested in joining.

P&C EFFORTS

A huge thank you to our P&C for running a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle last Sunday. They worked incredibly hard, and the day was a great success—thank you also to everyone who came down to buy a sausage and show support.

The P&C have also organised our annual Colour Run for 17 December. Students have the opportunity to earn some fantastic prizes, and we would love your support. If you need another note, please visit the front office.

CHILDREN’S UNIVERSITY

The Children’s University Graduation will be held on 25 November, and we are very proud that we have such a large number of students graduating this year.

A very big thank you to parent Corrine Ferraro, who has generously volunteered a significant amount of time to coordinate the program, as well as to Miss Law, who has also helped bring it to life. We would also like to acknowledge Donna from ECU, who coordinates the program and works tirelessly to support our students.

The students have engaged in exceptional learning opportunities this year, and we look forward to celebrating their achievements at the graduation.

SOCIAL MEDIA BAN

From 10 December 2025, many social media platforms won’t be allowed to let Australians under 16 create or keep an account. The information on this page (https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/social-media-age-restrictions) will help you understand why, and how you can help your under-16 through the change.

LEAVERS SHIRTS

After some issues with recent Leavers Shirts, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue the practice of students designing the shirts each year. Instead, we have enlisted the talents of Aron Yarran, a local Noongar artist, to create an artwork that symbolises our students’ journey through to Year 6.

Here is the artwork and its explanation:

The Warrajirri-Yarra design and canvas created for Swan View Primary, utilises the school colour scheme and cultural symbology to capture the continuing spirit of the school.

The image tracks the journey of both students, staff and community from the past, present and future.

Education is a never ending journey and we gather together to foster this learning experience.

Meeting places represent this coming together.  The tracklines reflect the eternal continuation of such a journey.

May all students uphold the school values of collaboration, kindness, respect, resilience, excellence and pride for these values make any journey more valuable.

We truly appreciate the work Aron created for our school, and we are proudly displaying the artwork in the front office. From this design, we have created three Leavers Shirt options, and each year students will have the opportunity to vote for their preferred design (all options include first names on the back). Here are this year’s designs:

We are pleased to announce that students have chosen the first shirt option for 2026! This new process means students will receive their shirts much earlier, allowing them to enjoy wearing them throughout the entire year.

STUDENT CONCERNS

A reminder that if you have any concerns regarding your child’s education, behaviour, or social interactions, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher first. Our Admin team is always happy to support and meet with families, but we ask that the teacher is consulted as the first point of contact.

Around the Rooms

Students created faction fish bowls, using different colours of fish and placing them in the fishbowl. Students then completed the recording chart, i.e 6 fish, 4 were red and 2 were blue, write the fraction 4/6 red and 2/6 blue. Extended students started with 10 plus fish in their bowl.

These students made quarter artwork. Students made quarter pieces of art, first decorating their wholes, then folding them in half and half again. Students were extended by using a mixture of halves, quarters and eighths.
