From the Principal

Kaya Swan View PS community,

What a fabulous start to the final term we have had! It is hard to believe the end of the year is upon us.

EXCITING NEWS! CUDDLES JOINING US AT SWAN VIEW PS

We are very excited to let you know that Cuddles Outside of School Care will be operating a service AT OUR SCHOOL in Term 1, 2026! We are fitting out a special area in B Block just for Cuddles and they will be operating before and after school care from our school site. This is a great opportunity for our families as they will be here every day and operating on the school holidays. If you are interested in signing up, please see the details below:

12th and 13th NOVEMBER IMPORTANT

Our server is being replaced on the 12th and 13th and will mean that we will have NO PHONES or computers for the two days. The phone will be diverted to a mobile but please ensure you are only contacting the school if it is of very high importance.

PRESENTATION EVENING

This will have a new look with students preforming an item and then moving onto our Book Awards. We have combined the two to reduce workload for our staff and also to have just one event for families to attend. We appreciate many of our families work and have very busy schedules so we are hoping having one event alleviates some of the stress of juggling schedules. We will have it on the oval as well.

ATTENDANCE

We have noticed a lot of students have not come back to school yet, or have only come for a couple of days last week. We need all students to be at school every day. If they are not at school, we need the reason. If it is longer than 2 days we are required by law to have a medical certificate.

CLASSES 2026

We are finalising our staff for next year and have some recruitment processes happening. I wanted to let you know that Mrs Helen Reed is taking 2026 off to attend to her very busy family, but has assured us she will be back for 2027. Sadly though, Mrs Amanda Stevenson will be leaving us at the end of the year to enjoy her retirement. We are so very sad to be losing Mrs Stevenson, but she has assured us she will be back for relief (thank goodness!). I wanted to let you know that we have employed a very experienced early childhood teacher, Mrs Shantelle Williams to join us in 2026. Shantelle is currently working at Chidlow PS and has been there for nearly 5 years, before that having experience in the Kimberley. We are really looking forward to having her experience in our already amazing EC block.

We are aiming to do the same as last year and let families know classes at the end of term. We will then organise a transition time for your child to be with their new teacher. A reminder that we have a Class Placement Policy available on our website which gives guidance around how we choose classes for students:

We are also very pleased to let you know that an ex student, Bev Moore has agreed to work with Tash Brockman next year 2 days a week. Tash will work 2 days, and Bev another 2. This will assist our Aboriginal students.

CAN YOU HELP THE P&C?

Bunnings BBQ

Our fantastic P&C have organised to do a Bunnings BBQ on Sunday the 16th November to help raise much needed funds for the school. They will be organising shifts that are 3 hours in length and they would LOVE as many volunteers as possible. If you think you can help, please see Phil Dobson, our P&C President or come and visit us in the office and we can organise for a P&C member to get in touch.

Colour Run

The P&C have organised this again for WEDNESDAY 17th December. Students will get their sign up forms and get the chance to earn some great prizes with sponsorship.

EXTRA CCTV CAMERAS

To ensure the safety of our students and staff, we have installed some additional CCTV cameras around the school to ensure that all of our play areas are covered. The safety of our students is our priority here at Swan View PS and we hope you feel assured with this extra safety measure.

OPEN SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING

A reminder that we would LOVE more parents on our School Council and we have a meeting on Thursday 6th November at 3.15pm in the staff room if you would like to come along and see what it is about.

WORLD TEACHER’S DAY 31st OCTOBER

On Friday 31st October we will celebrating all of our amazing staff (teacher’s, support staff and office staff). We believe it truly takes a village to teach a child and our village is wonderful. We would love you to make sure you let our staff members know the positive contribution to your child’s learning.

WATCH FOUND

One of our very honest students found an engraved watch on school grounds yesterday. If you have lost your watch please come to the office and describe it and it will be returned to you.

Interschool Cricket

On Wednesday the 22nd, after a slight delay, a select group of students took part in the interschool cricket tournament. Competing against teams from: Middle Swan Primary, St Anthonys Primary, Guildford Primary and Midvale Primary. Our students demonstrated fantastic behaviours and a willingness to support one another in a sport that some students only discovered last term.

Our girls won 2 matches, including one against the eventual overall winners of the competition, St Anthonys, as well as losing one by just 4 runs. Special mention to the batting efforts of Maddison Schloss and Aurora Mokomoko for hitting the boundary repeatedly.

The boys put up a good effort to make one win but came up against some seriously competitive teams from the other schools, winning one game but we were lucky enough to witness a fantastic bowling display by Cody Dobson and some outstanding fielding by Lincoln Imms.

Well done for your efforts on a warm day Swan View, you should be proud of your efforts and we are proud of you for the positive way in which you represented the school.

Around the Rooms

EC4 students testing out their bridge constructions. The students had to design and build a bridge for the gingerbread man to safely cross the river and not get eaten by the wolf.

Students in EC4 had to make and then draw a caterpillar with different colours. Then the students wrote down the ‘out of’ statement, i.e. 3 out of 5 are yellow,  the fraction 3/5 and  write three fifths, 2 out of 5 are blue, fraction 2/5 and write two fifths. Extended students had a longer caterpillar.

Community News

Hi, my name is Jonathan and I help to run a City of Swan Library project called the Futures Lab:

We provide technology like 3D printers and VR, as well as running free after-school coding and tech workshops for young people. And we’re celebrating our 10 year anniversary with a free festival event for all ages on Friday November 14th at 5:30pm at Midland Town Hall!

As we work for the Library and City of Swan, everything we provide is free

It’ll be full of hands-on coding, robotics and VR activities, kids exhibiting their projects and various other educational and tech organisations having stalls set up.
