Kaya Swan View PS Community,
It’s hard to believe we’re already heading into Week 5! A reminder that there will be NO SCHOOL THIS MONDAY (27 May) as staff will be participating in Berry Street training, which supports our Social and Emotional Learning program.
We’ve had a smooth start to the term, even with swimming lessons in full swing. It’s been fantastic to see so many students participating enthusiastically. I hope you’ve appreciated the return to a two-week program rather than the shorter five-day format we’ve had in recent years. I’m sure there will be some very proud swimmers coming home today having passed their stage. Thank you for your continued support — we know it’s not always easy to get everything ready (and dry!) each day. We truly appreciate your efforts.
We’re very proud to be sending home our SVPS Business Plan for 2025–2027 today. Please take a moment to read through our school’s goals and aspirations. As you know, our school has undergone a great deal of change over the past two years, and we’re committed to our improvement journey. Our parent and guardian community plays an essential role in this, and your feedback and support are always valued.
Today is P&C Day, and I want to give a huge shout-out to our amazing P&C! I truly believe ours is one of the best in WA. Their commitment to the school and the number of events they’ve coordinated over the past two years is outstanding. They’ve helped raise thousands of dollars, funding initiatives like our new playground, buses for Senior Sports, and new library books. If you see one of our P&C members, please take a moment to thank them for their time and dedication. They’re always looking for extra hands — if you’re interested, we’d love for you to get involved!
A big congratulations to our students for winning the Interschool Faction Carnival — the first win in over 30 years! The whole school celebrated our team’s return with a heroes’ welcome. This is a significant achievement and another proud moment for our school. Well done to Mr. Peterson — it’s every PE teacher’s dream to bring home the interschool trophy!
I’d also like to celebrate the six students whose artwork has been selected for entry into the 2025 Shaun Tan Awards at the Subiaco Library. Under the expert guidance of Mrs. North — a talented artist in her own right — our students’ creativity continues to flourish. We are so lucky to have her on staff, and we are incredibly proud of the quality of work being produced.
Over the coming months, you’ll notice updates to our signage, letterheads, and other school materials. We’re excited to modernise our branding to reflect the professional and positive journey our school is on.
As the weather cools, please ensure students are attending school in correct uniform. This includes grey or maroon jumpers — no hoodies, please. We’ve also had a few students wearing fake nails and large jewellery. A reminder that fake nails are not permitted, and while studs are acceptable, long earrings pose a safety risk and are not allowed.
Lastly, our school community received some sad news this week. We have included resources at the end of this newsletter to help families support children of different ages through grief. Please remember, if your child needs extra support, don’t hesitate to contact our front office — we have staff available to help.
Wishing you a restful weekend ahead.
Warm regards,
Jemima Tomlinson
