Principal’s Message
We have had a wonderful and very busy few weeks at Swan View Primary School, filled with learning, community connection and celebration. It has been lovely to see our students, families and staff working together and supporting one another across a range of important events.
NAPLAN
Our students recently completed NAPLAN, and we would like to commend them for their positive attitude and perseverance throughout the testing period. We are very proud of the effort they showed and the way they approached the challenges.
Harmony Lunch
Our Harmony Lunch was extremely well attended and a true highlight. Families shared dishes from all over the world, creating a beautiful celebration of diversity, inclusion and community. It was heartwarming to see everyone come together and enjoy such a meaningful event.
Parent Interviews
We recently held our half‑day Parent Interviews and would like to thank parents and caregivers for taking the time to meet with teachers. Your engagement and support are greatly appreciated and play a vital role in your child’s learning and wellbeing.
Faction Carnival – Wednesday
Our Faction Carnival will take place next week on Wednesday, and we are looking forward to an exciting day of participation and school spirit. This is a smoke‑ and alcohol‑free event. A reminder that high school students must not attend if their school is open on the day, as this sends the wrong message to our own students. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Easter Hat Parade and Easter Raffle
Our Easter Hat Parade will be held at 9:00am, with Steve Catania MP selecting a winner from each class. We sincerely thank our fantastic P&C, who have worked extremely hard to gather donations for prizes. The Easter Raffle is truly egg‑selent and will be drawn on Thursday.
Swimming Lessons – Term 2
Swimming lessons will commence in Week 3 next term at Swan Active. Notes will be sent home next week with further information.
Attendance Matters
We have had a strong focus on attendance recently and appreciate families supporting this priority. We would like to congratulate the following classes for their excellent attendance wins over the last few weeks:
Week 6 – EC1 (Thursday/Friday group) – 90% attendance
Week 7 – A4 (Year 5/6) – 96% attendance
Week 8 – C1 (Year 3) – 92%
Regular attendance has a significant impact on student learning and wellbeing. Missing just one day of school each week can result in the loss of a substantial amount of learning over time. Every day at school really does count. Please remember, we are here to support you and if you are finding getting your child to school difficult, please get in touch with your child’s teacher.
| If your child misses… | that equals… | or… | From Kindy to year 12 that adds up to… | Which is the equivalent of attending until: |
| 1 day per fortnight | 20 days per year | 1 month per year | nearly 1 ½ years | part-way through year 11 |
| 1 day per week | 40 days per year | 2 months per year | over 2 ½ years | part-way through year 10 |
| 2 days per week | 80 days per year | 4 months per year | over 5 years | the end of year 7 |
| 3 days per week | 120 days per year | 6 months per year | nearly 8 years | the end of year 4 |
Morning Circle Routines
We are pleased to share a visual of our Morning Circle routines, which are implemented across all classes through the Berry Street Education Model. Morning Circle helps ensure a consistent and calm start to the day, supports positive relationships and sets clear expectations so all students begin learning in the same supportive way.

School Value Focus – Resilience
Over the next two weeks, our school value focus will be resilience. We will be encouraging students to keep trying when things feel challenging, to learn from mistakes, and to approach difficulties with a positive and determined mindset. We would love families to continue these conversations at home by talking with children about what resilience looks like in everyday life and encouraging them to persevere. We also ask that parents and caregivers support their child by having positive conversations about school and about teaching staff, as this helps build confidence, trust and a strong sense of belonging for our students.

P&C Fundraising – Student Art Cards
Our P&C currently has a beautiful range of greeting cards on sale in the front office. With the support and guidance of our Art Teacher, Mrs North, student designs have been professionally printed onto cards, and they are absolutely gorgeous. Cards are available for $3 each, and all proceeds go towards supporting school initiatives. We encourage families to pop into the front office and take a look — they make a wonderful keepsake or gift while supporting our school community. Here are the talented students who have artwork on the cards:

Staffing News
We would like to let you know that, unfortunately, Tash Brockman (AIEO) will be leaving us at the end of next week to begin an exciting new chapter, starting her own business. Tash has been an integral member of our SVPS community and has built strong, meaningful connections with both students and staff. She will be greatly missed, and we wish her every success in this new venture.
The AIEO role remains a vital position at our school, with over 80 Aboriginal students currently enrolled. We are pleased to share that we have secured Bev Moore, who is currently working alongside Tash. Bev will continue in the AIEO role three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday) until the end of the year. We are also excited to announce that Corrine Ferraro, one of our dedicated Ballardong Noongar parents, has agreed to join the team as an AIEO on Wednesdays, working alongside Bev. Corrine brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in embedding Aboriginal perspectives within educational settings, and we warmly welcome her to the role.
Important Reminder
School resumes on Tuesday 21st April. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another great term.

Boola Bardip Museum Excursion C1, C4 and C6

Around The Rooms

Students (extension) made 100-120 other students made 20-50 things bags and check the count of their classmates. The bags are then changed in quantity, so that each bag does not necessarily contain precisely 100. Students now need to estimate and check the count of each bag by laying the items onto squares of the 120 chart.

EC4 during Literacy rotations. Students were doing work word with manipulative tiles. This allow students to physically represent sounds and then move tiles as they say each sound in a word.

Students created ladybirds using counters on top of the templates, aiming to see the number of spots straight away (subitising small collections up to 10). Student A closes their eyes, student B makes the ladybird. Student A opens their eyes and tries to see the total, for example “I see 3 (circling around that side of the ladybird), I see 5 (circling around that side of the ladybird), that is 8 (circling around the whole ladybird).
