Principals Message
Kaya Swan View PS community,
We have started off 2025 with gusto and we have loved getting back into our learning routine. Students have been ensuring they follow our SVPS whole school expectations and values:

We would love you to remind student of these at home as well and ensure you are talking about our school in a positive way. The way we model communication to our children about school can have such a big impact on the way they act in class.
I wanted to draw your attention to the Staff Development Days we have this year. These are the days where students stay home while staff complete professional learning. This year they are:
MONDAY 26th MAY
FRIDAY 25th JULY
MONDAY 13th OCTOBER
We will also be closing the school at 11:15am on MONDAY 24th MARCH to allow teachers and parents to meet/talk on the phone about student progress. We will be opening bookings to this soon.
Our fantastic P&C have sourced some Faction Shirts with our school logo that you can now purchase from the uniform shop. We are now going to allow students to wear faction shirts if they wish on their PE day and/or Junior/Senior Sports practice days. This way, you will be able to get more use out of the faction shirt.
We have had a number of students bringing e-scooters and there was an accident last week out the front of the school where a younger child was hit by one. Children under the age of 16 are not legally allowed to use e-scooters. There are also a number of high school students taking younger children on their scooters which is also illegal. We would appreciate your support in ensuring this no longer occurs.

We are still on the hunt for a Gardener/Handyperson. Rick did such a tremendous job for our school and we would love someone with as much enthusiasm as him. If you know someone who might be interested, please encourage them to apply here https://search.jobs.wa.gov.au/page.php?pageID=160&windowUID=0&AdvertID=371109
A reminder to let the school know if your child is away/sick. We have noticed a number of students starting to be away one or two days a week and we will be starting to follow up with phone calls if we do not hear from you. Did you know that just one day away here and there can make a BIG difference to your child’s learning?

We have a new batch of eager student leaders, faction captains and vice captains, sustainability and art leaders. They are:

Around the Rooms
EC4’s maths lesson.
One group were building towers into tens and ones and then had to write the number in number and word form. The other group were playing bingo from 1-50.
The students in EC4 were learning about mass. The students were working in small groups and measuring the mass of objects to find out the lighter and heavier mass.
One group were using playdough to make days of the week and months of the year, then they had to write the words. Other group were making tens and ones using unifix cubes and then writing it down in number and word form.
Some students were using informal units to measure the length of objects around the classroom.

Art
Congratulations to all of the artists who created amazing Abstract art designs for their visual diaries. Using only colour, line and shape they created amazing abstract paintings. Inspired by Jackson Pollock, Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian, they have done an amazing job! Well done everyone.

We are reading Fantastic Mr Fox as our Novel Study unit this term. We used our Design Technology lessons to build a 3D Model of the story setting. Mrs Tomlinson visited us to view our exhibits. It was soo much Fun!!

Chung Wah Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe Incursion

Our school was filled with excitement as we welcomed two incredible Chinese Dragons to celebrate Chinese New Year! The vibrant performance was a spectacular way for our students to experience a tradition that has been celebrated for centuries.
At our school, we embrace and celebrate cultural diversity, recognizing the importance of understanding and respecting the rich traditions of different communities. Events like this provide our students with the opportunity to learn, appreciate, and connect with cultures beyond their own, fostering an environment of inclusivity and respect.
A big thank you to everyone who made this celebration possible! It was wonderful to see the joy on our students’ faces as they engaged in this special experience.
CONTAINERS FOR CHANGE

Our school is registered for Containers for Change and all money raised goes towards are Recycling and Sustainability Program run by our amazing Ms Noelene Booth.
You can help us by bringing your 10c recyclable containers and depositing them in our bins which are located in the staff carpark. We are also purchasing bright yellow bins which will be located in each learning block for students to use during the day.
The schools Member number is C10288048 if you would like to return to a local drop off centre.

We have been saving bottles for 2 years and have collected a huge amount. Well, done to our community of recyclers. Great job!
