Principal’s Message

Welcome back to a brand‑new school year at Swan View Primary School! It has been wonderful to see our students settling in so positively and our staff working tirelessly to ensure a strong start to 2026.
TopTen Maths Training
Yesterday, our teachers engaged in professional learning focused on the Top10 Maths Program. This training was an excellent opportunity to deepen our understanding and ensure consistent practice across the school. It was exciting to see how the program can be used to its full potential to support high‑quality numeracy learning for all students.
Chinese New Year Lion Dancers
We also enjoyed a vibrant celebration of Chinese New Year with a visit from the Chinese Lion Dancers. The energy and joy they brought to our school was incredible, and it was a fantastic way for students to learn about and appreciate cultural traditions from around the world.
Student Assessment
You may have noticed a few relief teachers around the school. Our staff have been completing a significant amount of early‑year assessment, which is essential in helping us understand each child’s learning needs. These assessments allow us to provide targeted and tailored education—setting every student up for a successful year.
Cuddles OSHC Opening
We are excited to share that Cuddles OSHC will begin operating from next Tuesday out of the B Block wet area. This is a wonderful service for our families, and we look forward to welcoming them on site.
Run Club Returns
Our Run Club is back up and running every Monday and Friday morning. It’s a fantastic way for students to start the day feeling energised and ready to learn, and we love seeing so many children getting active before school.
New Bike Racks
You may also notice our new bike racks located in the Early Childhood area and near the sports shed. We’re thrilled to see more students riding or scootering to school and hope these new racks make that even easier.
NAPLAN – Weeks 6 & 7
A reminder that NAPLAN for our Year 3 and Year 5 students will take place in Weeks 6 and 7. This can be a tiring period for some students, so ensuring they have plenty of rest and nutritious meals will help them feel confident and prepared.
Late Arrivals
We have had a noticeable increase in late arrivals. Mornings are a crucial time when we deliver key literacy instruction, so please help your child by ensuring they arrive on time and ready to learn each day.
Communication With Teachers
If at any point you have concerns or notice your child experiencing challenges, please speak with your child’s classroom teacher first. It is really important that teachers are aware of any issues students may be having so they can provide timely support and ensure your child feels safe, settled, and ready to learn.
Children’s University
We are excited to share that Children’s University will be starting soon. This wonderful program encourages students in Years 2–6 to engage in extra learning beyond the classroom. Students who enrol receive a Passport to Learning, which they use to record and accumulate hours of additional learning activities throughout the year. The program finishes with a very special celebration—students who complete enough hours have the opportunity to graduate at ECU at the end of the year. If you have any questions about the program, you can contact: d.gallinagh@ecu.edu.au.
Save the Date – Harmony Day Lunch
We are looking forward to celebrating Harmony Day together with our shared lunch. This is where families bring in a dish from their country of origin and we share it as a school. It will be on Tuesday 17th March.
Thank you for your ongoing support. It is shaping up to be a wonderful year, and I look forward to all we will achieve together.

Around the Rooms

Students used their tens and ones frame templates and were prompted to make numbers and emphasis was placed on that the first digit shows how many complete tens the number has and the second digit shows how many extras are needed – the ones.
Lion Dancers for Chinese New Year
We were very lucky to have the Chung Wah Dragon and Lion Dance group perform and wish us good luck and prosperity for the Chinese New Year. Our students enjoyed the performance with all the brightly coloured costumes and loud drums.

Midvale Hub

Due to our large number of assessors and testing suites operating simultaneously each day, we continue to have immediate availability for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), and Intellectual Developmental Disorder (IDD) assessments.
And by immediate availability, I do mean immediate! Due to adding two more staff members, we have multiple spots available each from next week on.
PECS also has a Clinical Psychologist on staff who can do ‘ASD Diagnostic Confirmations’ of assessments already carried out by a Medical Specialist. We aim to turn these around within 10 days of receipt of the existing assessment report.
Please note, as a standard operating procedure, immediately following the assessment we provide the parents with a full feedback session of all the checklist and testing results so that they are aware of the outcome of the assessment on the day of testing and can be acting on our recommendations even before the written report is received.
Also of note is that we do a full ADHD assessment for free as part of our SLD assessments due to the high level of comorbidity between the two disorders. PECS has conducted in excess of 15,000 assessments in the past 25 years, has maintained a 5-star Google Review rating from 300 Reviews, and is a registered NDIS provider.
