Kaya Swan View Community,

Can you believe we are nearly halfway through Term 3? This year has flown by. We have some fantastic things to share with you all:

NAPLAN SUCCESS

We are delighted to share that Swan View Primary School’s 2026 NAPLAN results show strong growth and achievement across the school, particularly for our Year 5 students.

While NAPLAN is only one measure of student progress, these results provide encouraging evidence that the teaching practices and learning programs we have been implementing across the school are making a positive difference for our students. Our school board met recently and wanted to publicly share how proud they were of the results and that it was a celebration for the school community. 

Celebrating Growth

One of the highlights of this year’s results was the outstanding improvement demonstrated by our Year 5 students. Compared with 2025, Year 5 students showed growth in every NAPLAN assessment area, with particularly strong results in Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy. Reading results also improved significantly, moving from below expected levels last year to within the expected range this year. Our students also performed ABOVE the WA School Mean in both Spelling and Writing, which is a huge achievement. 

Our Year 3 students also continued to perform consistently across all assessment areas, providing a strong foundation for future growth as they move through the school.

What’s Making the Difference?

Over the past two years, staff have worked together to implement a range of evidence-informed teaching practices designed to strengthen learning outcomes for every student.

These include:

Word Origins Students are learning about the meaning and history of words, helping them develop stronger vocabulary, spelling skills and reading comprehension. Understanding where words come from helps students make connections across their learning and become more confident readers and writers.

UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) is an evidence-based program PP – Year 3 that provides explicit and systematic instruction in phonics, spelling and reading skills. Through daily lessons, students learn how sounds and letters work together, helping them become confident readers, writers and spellers.

Top Ten Mathematics Our whole-school approach to mathematics focuses on developing strong number knowledge and automatic recall of essential maths facts. By building fluency, students are able to apply their mathematical thinking more confidently when solving more complex problems.

Shaping Minds Instructional Practices Across the school, teachers are using the Shaping Minds framework to ensure lessons are highly engaging, explicit and consistent. This includes:

• Daily reviews that help students strengthen their knowledge and retain learning over time.
• Engagement norms that promote active participation and thinking in every classroom.
• Structured teaching practices that provide students with regular opportunities to practise, respond and succeed.

Looking Ahead

While we are proud of these results, we remain committed to continuous improvement. Reading, numeracy and language skills will continue to be important areas of focus as we work to ensure every student achieves their personal best.

Most importantly, these results reflect the collective efforts of our students, staff and families. Thank you for your ongoing support of your child’s learning. Together, we are building strong foundations for future success.

RAP PLAN

We are very excited to announce that our school’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been officially approved!

Our Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs), Corinne and Bev, have worked tirelessly to consult with staff and students, and to gather feedback from our school community to develop this important document. We would like to thank them both for their dedication and commitment to ensuring that Swan View Primary School continues to be a welcoming, inclusive and culturally responsive place for all.

Our RAP outlines the steps we will take as a school to strengthen relationships, build respect and create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and community members. It reflects our commitment to reconciliation and to embedding Aboriginal perspectives throughout our school.

We look forward to sharing more of our RAP journey with families as we begin implementing the actions outlined in the plan. If you are interested in seeing the plan, it is available on our website. 

BOBBY OF THE MONTH

We have some super special Bobby plush toys arriving soon at Swan View PS!

Our larger Bobby plushies will be awarded as our “Bobby of the Month” award at assemblies. Each month, a student who has consistently demonstrated the value we have been focusing on will be selected to receive this special recognition.

We also have smaller Bobby keyring plushies that students can choose as part of our Principal’s Prize rewards. These can be clipped onto school bags and are sure to become a favourite among students.

These exciting new rewards are another way we are reinforcing our school values and celebrating students who demonstrate kindness, respect, responsibility and excellence in their everyday actions. We can’t wait to see our Bobbies finding new homes around the school!

CLEVER KWENDAS

Our Kindergarten Transition Program began this week, and we were excited to welcome our newest students and their families into the Swan View Primary School community.

Starting school is an important milestone for both children and parents, and our transition sessions have been designed to help make this experience as smooth and positive as possible. Through a range of engaging activities, children will become familiar with the school environment, meet staff, make new friends and begin developing confidence in their new surroundings.

We look forward to getting to know our future Kindy students and sharing the wonderful learning experiences that await them at Swan View PS.

SWAN VIEW SHS CUBBIES

We are thrilled to be partnering with Swan View Senior High School on an exciting project that will benefit our youngest learners.

The Year 12 Building and Construction students at SVSHS are currently designing and constructing two beautiful cubbies for our school. One cubby will be installed in our Pre-Primary area and the second will be located in the Junior Primary space.

The students have demonstrated incredible skill, creativity and craftsmanship throughout the project, and we are so grateful for their support and generosity. These cubbies will provide exciting opportunities for imaginative play, social interaction and outdoor learning for many years to come.

Thank you to the students and staff at Swan View Senior High School for contributing to our school community in such a meaningful way. We cannot wait to see the finished products!

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to Malakai T for being nominated the Aussie of The Month for August.

Malakai received the award for demonstrating outstanding mateship and assisting students on the oval. His great work has encouraged students to step out of their comfort zone. Fantastic work Malakai. A true mate to those in need.

Around the rooms

Students had to create equal groups using counters (dogs) on skateboards, recording each ‘groups of’ scenario using supportive picture templates. Students then had to record how many groups and how many dogs on each skateboard and the total amount of dogs altogether. Students were practising double numbers, skip counting by 2’s and 5’s.

Students were learning about 3D shapes, naming the shape and counting how many edges, vertices and faces of each shape.

All Abilities Come And Try Experience

Hills Night Hockey Association is proud to host an All Abilities Come and Try Experience, creating an inclusive and welcoming opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to discover the fun of indoor hockey.

The experience is designed to give participants the chance to get on the court, have a go at hockey in a supportive environment, and experience the excitement of being part of a team. With activities adapted to suit different abilities and experience levels, everyone can participate at their own pace and enjoy the game in a way that works for them.

Our All Abilities Come and Try Experience is all about inclusion, connection, confidence and having fun. Whether participants are completely new to hockey or simply looking for a welcoming sporting community, Hills Night Hockey Association is excited to provide an environment where everyone feels valued and encouraged.

Come along, meet our friendly coaches and players, try some hockey skills and games, and discover that there’s a place for everyone on the hockey court!

All Abilities Hookin2Hockey Term 4 Program

Hills Night Hockey Association (HNHA) is excited to offer an All Abilities Hookin2Hockey Program in Term 4, providing an inclusive, welcoming and fun introduction to hockey for participants of all abilities.

The program is designed to give everyone the opportunity to learn, participate, build confidence and enjoy hockey in a supportive environment. Sessions will focus on developing fundamental hockey skills through fun games, activities and modified exercises that can be adapted to suit individual needs and abilities.

Participants will have the opportunity to learn basic hockey skills such as stick handling, passing, stopping, movement and goal shooting, while developing coordination, confidence and teamwork along the way. Most importantly, the program is about having fun, making friends and being part of a team.

Our experienced coaches and volunteers are committed to creating a positive environment where every participant feels welcome, supported and encouraged to participate at their own pace.

Everyone is welcome!

Whether you are new to hockey, have never played a team sport before, or already enjoys being active, the All Abilities Hookin2Hockey Program provides a great opportunity to discover the game and develop new skills.
